OH PRETTY WOMAN:
Roy Orbison had been scoring hit records since 1960 and had his first number one with "Running Scared" in 1961. With the onslaught of the "British Invasion," most American artists took a back seat, but in September of 1964, Orbison took "Oh, Pretty Woman" to the top spot. He signed a new contract with MGM records, but nothing seemed to work after that. He didn't have another top 20 record until "You Got It" made #9 in 1989.
"You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" was a collaborative effort from Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield (The Righteous Brothers), song writers Barry Mann and Cynthia Wiel, and producer Phil Specter. It was the number one song for two weeks in February of 1965.

Petula Clark had been a successful recording artist in Britain and France since 1952, but none of her records had found an audience in the US. When everything British became popular in the US, Clark's "Downtown," which was issued in December, actually outdid the British release, making it to #1 on January 23rd, 1965 -- it stalled at #2 in Britain.
