"Let the Good Times Roll" by Shirley & Lee
"Come On Baby, rock me all night long."

Shirley & Lee were Shirley Goodman and Leonard Lee who had success on the r & b charts and one smash hit on the pop chart, "Let the Good Times Roll" which the couple co-wrote. Produced by Dave Bartholomew out of his New Orleans studio, the song capitalized on the call and response style Shirley & Lee had been using for minor success in the early 1950's. "Good Times" landed on the charts in the midst of the rock and roll explosion of 1956. Entering the top 40 on September 8th, it reached only number 20 (October 10th -- Best Sellers in Retail Stores Chart), but stayed in the top 40 for 9 weeks and sold a million records. The song is a fairly ordinary blues sound until the third chorus when Shirley's unique voice takes over -- its certainly an attention getter. Maybe part of the reason for its low ranking was the reluctance of some radio stations to play the record -- "Come on baby while the thrill is on, come on baby let's have some fun." "Let the Good Times Roll" is classic rock and roll from the opening beat to the saxaphone break.

LYRICS:

Come on baby let the good times roll
Come on baby let me thrill your soul..
Come on baby let the good times roll..
Roll all night long...

Come on baby yes this is this...
This is the something I just can't miss..
Come on baby let the good times roll..
Roll all night long...

Come on baby while the thrill is on..
Come on baby lets have some fun..
Come on baby let the good times roll..
Roll all night long...

Come on baby just close the door..
Come on baby lets rock some more...
Come on baby let the good times roll..
Roll all night long...

Feels so good...
When your home..
Come on baby..
Rock me all night long..

Come on baby let the good times roll
Come on baby let me thrill your soul..
Come on baby let the good times roll..
Roll all night long...

Feels so good...
When your home..
Come on baby..
Rock me all night long..

Come on baby let the good times roll
Come on baby let me thrill your soul..
Come on baby let the good times roll..
Roll all night long...
