Keen records struck gold with its first release for Sam Cooke who had decided to move into the pop genre after extensive success as a gospel singer.
Charlie Gracie made the most of his opportunity to appear on American Bandstand (Cameo was a Philadelphia label) and took his version of "Butterfly" to the top of the charts.
Jimmy Rodgers had two top ten songs during 1957 for Roulette records, the other being "Kisses Sweeter Than Wine."
Jerry Lee Lewis kept Sun records' success going with "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On" and "Great Balls of Fire."
Columbia wasn't doing very well with the new sound of rock and roll, but they still had a recording star holdover from the early fifties as Frankie Lane scored a #3 hit with "Moonlight Gambler."
RCA had more than Elvis Presley -- Perry Como was still producing chart-topping records.
