"The Top Ten" was written by Gary Theroux and Bob Gilbert and published in 1982. It provides a "Top 40" list for each year from 1956 to 1981 and a one page article on each of the top ten songs from each year. It also has a collection of information on pop history to introduce each year."
"Volare (Nel Blu Dipinto di Blu)" was the consensus number one song of 1958. It was released by a number of artists but the original Italian recording by Domenico Modugno was by far the most popular.
Conway Twitty reached #1 with 'Its Only Make Believe' and was ranked #18 for the year by G & T -- Twitty would eventually become a country music star scoring 55 #1 country singles.
The Elegant were the epitome of the "one hit wonder." "Little Star" was a number one song in 1958 and ranked #9 for the year by G & T. It was the only top 40 recording for the group.
