Four slow tempo songs find the spotlight in 1959. "The Three Bells" was a country cross-over hit for The Browns. "Mr. Blue" was one of two number one hits for The Fleetwoods. While showing his rock and roll skills on the flip side with "La Bamba" Ritchie Valens took his ballad style to #2 with "Donna." Frankie Avalon scored his first #1 with "Venus."
