"Raindrops" by Dee Clark
"A perfect record, from start to finish" -- Billy Vera

On the road, driving through storms on the way to Chicago with guitarist Phil Upchurch, Dee Clark composed his biggest hit. It was released in the spring of 1961 and would reach #2 on June 26th, kept out of the #1 spot by Gary "U.S." Bonds' "Quarter to Three." Featuring Upchurch's guitar line and appropriate sound effects, the song begins with a reserved intro that rises to a climactic falsetto. The lyrics speak of a very typical early '60's attitude: "Oh no, it can't be teardrops, because a man ain't suppposed to cry." While Clark continued to record, he never again captured the magic of "Raindrops." G & T ranked the song #8 for the year.

LYRICS:

Oh, Raindrops
So many raindrops
It feels like raindrops falling from my eye-eyes
Falling from my eyes.

Since my love has left me
I'm so all alone
I would bring her back to me
But I don't know where she's gone
I don't know where she's gone.

There must be a cloud in my head
Rain keeps falling from my eye-eyes
Oh, no it can't be teardrops
For a man ain't supposed to cry.

So it must be raindrops
So many raindrops
It feels like raindrops falling from my eye-eyes
Falling from my eyes.

Oh, there must be a cloud in my head
Rain keeps falling from my eye-eyes.
Oh, no it can't be teardrops
For a man ain't supposed to cry.

So it must be raindrops
So many raindrops
It feels like raindrops falling from my eye-eyes
Falling from my eyes.

It keeps on fallin'
Fallin' from my eyes
Wooo, it keeps on fallin' from my eyes
