1961

Country produced two of 1961's featured artists: Patsy Cline and Roy Orbison. Patsy Cline had her biggest crossover hit in 1961 and Roy Orbison would emerge from his rockabilly country sound to soaring vocals with Monument Records. Dion would have his first success as a single performer and a The Shirelles would be the first "Girl Group" to make it to #1. Bobby Vee would emerge from his beginnings as Buddy Holly's replacement to score his first #1.
