Click on the appropriate button above to view an historical acccount of the record labels for the year, a chart ranking the popularity of the labels in the Billboard top twenty for the year, or a list of the labels that had records in the top twenty for the year.
Bobby Vee was mostly responsible for Liberty's success, but although he had four top twenty records in 1962, the only top ten record was a carry-over from 1961, "Run to Him."
Bobby Darin's "Things" helped the Atco label to reach the top ten (#8) in power points.
Parkway had five top twenty records, all of them by Chubby Checker. "Slow Twistin'" was actually a duet with Dee Dee Sharp.
Garpax had only one record in the top twenty but it was a big one as "The Monster Mash" went all the way to number one.
Nat King Cole hadn't had a top twenty record since 1958, but "Ramblin' Rose" made it to #2.
MGM's success (#6 in power points) was once again mostly the product of Connie Francis who had four top ten hits in 1962.
While Elvis Presley was mostly responsible for RCA's dominance of the charts in 1962, Sam Cooke also made a significant contribution with four top twenty records.
Colpix was an extension of Columbia Pictures. In 1962 it produced a #1 record from Shelley Fabares who starred in "The Donna Reed Show." Her costar, Paul Petersen also made the top twenty with "She Can't Find Her Keys" (#19). In addition, James Darren, a movie star who had also appeared on "Donna Reed" had two top twenty hits.
LIttle Eva rode the dance craze to the top of the chart for Dimension records.
Johnny Crawford was another example of a television star becoming a successful pop recording star. Crawford starred in "The Rifleman" and had three top twenty songs on the chart for Del-Fi in 1962
