"Be My Baby" by The Ronettes
" In a way it wasn't like having your mind blown, it was like having your mind revamped. It's like, once you've heard that record ("Be My Baby"), you're a fan forever." -- Brian Wilson
"The Darling Sisters" were a classic 1960's "girl group" from New York, Veronica Bennett, Estelle Bennett and Nedra Talley. They were signed to Phil Spector's Philles Records in 1963 and became "The Ronettes." "Be My Baby" was written by former Brill Building composers Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich along with Spector. Spector went all out with his "wall of sound" production techniques, using a full orchestra and many additional backup singers, including Cher and Darlene Love. "Be My Baby" climbed to #2 on October 12th and was kept from the top spot for three weeks by "Sugar Shack" which would become Billboard's #1 song for 1963. Veronica Bennett eventually married (and subsequently divorced) Phil Spector. In 1986 for Eddie Money' hit record, "Take Me Home Tonight" -- she reprised the "Be My Baby" chorus following Money's prompt, "just like Ronnie sang."

LYRICS:

The night we met I knew I needed you so
And if I had the chance I'd never let you go
So won't you say you love me? I'll make you so proud of me
We'll make 'em turn their heads every place we go

So won't you, please?
(Be my, be my baby)
Be my little baby
(My one and only baby)
Say you'll be my darlin'
(Be my, be my baby)
Be my baby now
(My one and only baby)
Whoa oh oh oh

I'll make you happy, baby, just wait and see
For every kiss you give me, I'll give you three
Oh, since the day I saw you, I have been waiting for you
You know I will adore you 'til eternity

So won't you, please?
(Be my, be my baby)
Be my little baby
(My one and only baby)
Say you'll be my darlin'
(Be my, be my baby)
Be my baby now
(My one and only baby)
Whoa oh oh oh

So come on and please
(Be my, be my baby)
Be my little baby
(My one and only baby)
Say you'll be my darlin'
(Be my, be my baby)
Be my baby now
(My one and only baby)
Whoa oh oh oh
