The Seekers were actually an Australian group that had some commercial success in Melbourne in 1963. In 1964 they travelled to the UK for a visit and ended up signing a record contract with EMI Records. They performed with Dusty Springfield and were introduced to her brother who had written "I'll Never Find Another You." They recorded the song and it became a #4 hit in the U.S. It was listed as #23 for 1965.

"Wooly Bully" was Billboard's top hit for 1965 even though it never made it to #1. It was kept from the top spot first by The Beach Boys' "Help Me Rhonda" and then by The Supreme's "Back In My Arms Again." But it did spend 12 weeks in the top twenty. The title character's name comes from lead singer Domingo Samudio's cat and is described as having "two big horns and a wooly jaw."

Herman's Hermits had the most songs in the top 100 with 5, the highest ranking being "Can't You Hear My Heart Beat" at #8. Between 1964 and 1967 they had 13 top twenty records with "Mrs. Brown You've Got a Lovely Daughter" and "I'm Henry VIII I Am" both reaching #1.

Gary Lewis & The Playboys placed 3 records in Billboard's 1965 top 100, the highest ranking being "This Diamond Ring" (#17). When producer Snuff Garrett heard that Gary, the son of famous comedian Jerry Lewis, had a band, he signed them thinking that Jerry Lewis might help promote them. Garrett chose a song Bobby Vee had turned down, "This Diamond Ring" for their first release. Garret got Murray the K to play the record in New York and when it started getting air play there, he recruited Jerry Lewis to contact Ed Sullivan for an appearance on his show. "This Diamond Ring" reached #1 on February 20th, 1965. A string of hits followed until Gary was drafted in 1966. The band disbanded after that.
Sonny & Cher had two records in the 1965 top 100 as a duo and each had solo performance -- Cher's "All I Really Want To Do" (#90) and Sonny's "Laugh At Me" (#94). "I Got You Babe" was thier #1 record and was ranked #16 at the end of the year.
In early 1965, The Righteous Brothers' "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" was in the top ten for nine weeks. It spent four weeks at #2 and two weeks at #1. The song was written by Brill buildig alums Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil and produced by Phil Specter so it had a high pedigree from the start. It was the #5 ranked record for 1965. It made the top twenty again by Dionne Warwick in 1969 (#16) and again in 1980 by Hall & Oates (#12).
Motown's presence on the 1965 chart was led by The Four Tops with their #1 "I Can't Help Myself" ranked as the #2 song for the year. They also had "It's The Same Old Song" (#83) in the top 100 and ironically it did sound a lot like "I Can't Help Myself."
