The Elvis Era introduced Rock and Roll into mainsteam American culture and it would be expected that there would be a lot of "dance" music -- after all, the teens on Bandstand were always looking for a "beat you can dance to" when rating a record. But there was also room for the ballad in the pop music of the Elvis Era -- Elvis himself had several major ballad hits, beginning with "Love Me Tender" in 1956.

For each year there is a page for "Romance" songs and "Dance" songs. The page features a list of appropriate songs from the year and a "Jukebox" for listening to a selection of those songs. You can access these pages from the year's main menu or you can view them by clicking on the year button below. You will find those same buttons on each of the pages to move from year to year in either the "Romance" or "Dance" sections.
