78io87 The "Overview" gives a perspective of the entire time span between 1956 and 1963, focusing mainly on the music -- the songs and artists that were most prominent during the decade. Included is a comparison of the eight years from the era, an analysis of the artists who recorded the most top twenty hits, artists that have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, songs that are listed as the "Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll" (RR Hall of Fame), a list of instrumental hits from the era, the top dance songs of the era, the top romance songs of the era, the top heartbreak songs.

The "Elvis Presley" section is divided into nine pages: "What Else" is an introduction that explains the naming of the era; "The Flash" describes the launching of Elvis's career at Sun Records; "Atomic Burst" chronicles Elvis's dramatic entry to the national scene with RCA recors; "Rock & Roll" explains Elvis's relationship to the new sound of rock and roll; "Absence" shows the significance of Elvis's tour in the army; "Elvis is Back" tells the story of Elvis's return from the army; "Lost Direction" explains how Elvis's music career declined; "The King is Dead" reflects on Elvis's 1968 comeback and eventual death; "A 'Boomer's' View" presents a personal perspective about Elvis Presley's career and significance.
