Steve Malousek came off the bench to lead the Warriors to victory in their first game of the ‘87-88 season, 60 - 31 over David City. Coach Mick Anderson credited Malousek’s defensive intensity for a second quarter spurt that blew the game open for Wahoo. Malousek, Troy Gock, and Kevin Jeppson all scored 3-pointers, Malousek’s being the most dramatic, a 90-foot one-handed toss just before the half-time buzzer. All-State forward, Steve Carmer was saw only limited action due to an ankle injury and foul trouble. But the newcomer to the Wahoo lineup, Dan Bartek, showed promise, posting 12 points and 15 rebounds. The Warriors led by as much as 34 points in the second half. David City coach, Tony Weinandt commented, “Hopefully, we won’t play anybody as tough the rest of the year.”
