vs. Elkhorn Mt. Michael

12/22/1987 vs. Elkhorn Mt. Michael NONCONFERENCE game HOME REGULAR SEASON

Season Game #: 5 / Current Record: 5 - 0

WAHOO: 14 ... 8 ... 11 ... 20 53
Elkhorn Mt. Michael: 6 ... 11 ... 13 ... 13 43

The December game between Class B #1 Wahoo and #2 Elkhorn Mt. Michael took on a “District Tournament atmosphere” as it was played in front of a full Wahoo gymnasium. The Warrior victory was largely the result of a box-and-one defense employed by the Warriors on Mt. Michael scoring leader, Rob Noble. Noble normally scores in the 20’s, but with Steve Malousek dogging him the whole game, backed up by Shawn Liliedahl and Kevin Jeppson, the Mt. Michael guard could only post ten points for the game, only two freethrows in the first half. The Knights were behind most of the game, but managed to pull within one, 33 - 32 early in the fourth quarter. But the Warrior press defense continued to produce turnovers (Mt. Michael committed 22 for the game) and Wahoo was able to pull away at the end of the game. Only six played, and only five players scored for Wahoo, led by Steve Carmer with 20. Kevin Jeppson added 15 (including two three point field goals) and Dan Bartek 10.
