Team Photo

The 1988 Championship was commemorated by a team picture that included all the players who had been on the team (14) even though for each game in the District and State tournaments, only 12 could actually be in uniform. Some, including Coach Anderson, wanted the picture to be displayed on the wall of the gym (as it was done in the movie, "Hoosiers"). But others saw that as inappropriate, and pointed out that it would be subjected to abuse from flying volleyballs, basketballs, etc. So it was decided to display the photo outside the gym, next to the door from the commons area. The picture was originally intended to be large, so as to be seen high up on the gym wall. When it was moved outside the gym, it was still displayed as a large picture. Even though there was limited wall space, this was not thought of as a problem -- nobody foresaw seven others being added to the collection in the next decade. The same picture was used in a plaque made available to the players that displayed the team medals as well. It should be noted that the "Conference" medal this year was displayed due to the team winning the "regular season" title, as they were defeated by Syracuse for the "tournament" championship.

Under the picture on the plaque was engraved the team accomplishments:
"Record 23 - 1 was the best in the school's history. District B-2 Champions, Capitol Conference Season Champions, Wahoo Holiday Tourney Champions, Second Consecutive State Tourney Berth, #1 Rated Class B Team in both the Omaha World Herald and Lincoln Journal. Best Defensive Ave. in the state 43.8 Pts/Game. Best Offensive Ave. since 1960 69.8 Pts/Game. School Record Field Goal Percentage 52%. Rated 10th in Class A in January."

Those in the picture were then identified as:
Front Row: Justin Andersonm, Mgr.; Harry Kasischke, Ass't. Coach; Mick Anderson, Head Coach; Mark Watton, Ass't Coach; Guy Dunning, Ass't Coach; Jeff Simons, Mgr.
Second Row: Matt Jonas, Mgr.; Rob Brigham, Ron Stoupa, Shawn Liliedahl, Steve Malousek, Kevin Jeppson, Scott Tingelhoff, Cliff Kreizel
Back Row: Steve Carmer, Jason Glock, Randy Hoffman, Dan Bartek, Eric Obert, Mike Dvorak, Troy Glock

Prior to the first game of the tournament, each qualifying team has its picture taken by the NSAA official photographer. Note, that in this picture, Mike Dvorak (far left) and Ron Stoupa (far right) were not in uniform (only 12 allowed) but were still included in the photo.

It's an NSAA tradition to take a photo of the Championship team after the game, for each class. The picture is taken at center court. Again, all 14 players were included. Also in this picture is Coach Kasischke's young son (standing in front of him), future Warrior Josh Kasischke. (Managers Justin Anderson and Mike Simons would also one day appear in uniform in these pictures.) Dan Bartek and Shawn Liliedahl had the honor of wearing the nets. All displayed a much more joyous demeanor than the somber (tense?) group in the pre tournament photo. This photo would be used for the state tournament program in 1989 which always displays the previous year's Champion.
