The semifinals of the 1989 B-3 District Tournament pitted Wahoo against an unfamiliar opponent. First of all, Boys Towns win over Platteview was a mild upset, and secondly, Wahoo rarely played the Cowboys. They hadnt been on Wahoos regular season schedule even though Father Flanaghans school was relatively close. Boys Town did not have a power house team in 1989, sporting only seven wins as they entered the contest with Wahoo. But they had pulled off the win over Platteview on Saturday and Wahoo approached Monday nights game with uneasiness born of these uncharted waters. Also, the opening round win hadnt exactly been a pressure packed performance. There was still some apprehension that this team wasnt tournament tested.
All those fears were quickly dismissed as Wahoo roared to a 22 - 9 first quarter lead and pushed it to 47 - 25 by half. Randy Hoffman and Jason Glock dominated in the paint, contributing 25 points, 14 from Hoffman and 11 from Glock. Much of the damage was done by the Wahoo defense that turned up the heat of their full court press to force 11 first half turnovers. The press got us into the uptempo type of game we like to play, commented Coach Anderson. Boys Town Coach, Dan Schneiss commented they set the tempo of the game right from the start. Indeed, it took Boys Town over three minutes to register a field goal in the game. With the transition and inside games in full swing, Ryan Eddie started burning the nets from long range in the second quarter. He registered four treys before half and then continued the onslaught in the second half, eventually tallying a school record eight three pointers. His 24 points led the team and was his best as a Warrior. Wahoo breezed on into the finals with an 84 - 49 thrashing of the Cowboys.
