Wahoo escaped from David City with a 72 - 64 win over Aquinas. The Monarchs claimed a 36 - 31 lead the first half and built the lead to ten points early in the second half. Aquinas repeatedly beat the vaunted Wahoo press for easy layups. Then Wahoo switched to a 1-3-1 half court trap and mounted a comeback, closing the gap to one at the end of the third quarter. Down 57 - 54 with 5:10 to go in the game, Justin Anderson connected for a three and then Jeff Simons hit from beyond the arc on the next possession to propel Wahoo into the lead. Simons went 3 for 3 from the floor, scoring 8 points in the final stanza on route to his game high 29 points. Coach Anderson commented on the senior’s play: “He (Jeff) was the glue that held us together.” Wahoo made five of six freethrows in the last 45 seconds to insure the win. Trent Toline (15) joined Anderson (14) and Simons in double figures.
