3/1/1993 vs. Waverly ... NONCONFERENCE / NEUTRAL / DISTRICT TOURNAMENT / Semi Final
Season Game #: 21 / Current Record: 21 - 0
WAHOO: 22 ... 16 ... 14 ... 29 .... 81
Waverly: 14 ... 13 ... 8 ... 14 .... 49
Wahoo was victorious in the second round of the B-2 District, downing Waverly 81 - 49. But the win wasn’t the usual Wahoo blitz. A ten point first quarter from Travis Toline helped the Warriors to an 8 point first quarter lead. Waverly stayed reasonably close, only trailing by 11 at half. But the Warriors steadily pulled away and then the blitz came in the fourth quarter. With the Wahoo press not producing the usual opponent turnovers (Waverly only committed 11 for the game), the Warriors backed off to a half court defense. Leading by 17 at the end of three quarters, Wahoo hit the first eight shots of the fourth quarter to put the game away. With Mike Hancock seeing limited action due to the flu, the other four starters picked up the scoring slack. Joel Weyand netted 28 points, followed by Justin Anderson (17), Greg Hain (15), and Travis Toline (12). Coach Anderson summed up the game, “I don’t think we played particularaly well until the fourth quarter. Waverly had a lot to do with that. We didn’t get much outside shooting with Hancock on the bench, and we were battling inside as well.”
