Wahoo was tested by David City Aquinas, but came away with a 69 - 54 road victory. A field goal and two free throws at the start of the fourth quarter gave the Monarhs a 47-45 lead. Wahoo responded with a Josh Anderson drive to the basket, a Mike Simons conventional three point play and then two more free throws from Simons produced by an Anderson pass on the fast break. Coach Watton noted, “Anderson made a strong play, taking it right to the hole, and the other guys seemed to feed off that.” Eric Eddie converted a three point play with 2:07 remaining in the game to give Wahoo a 58-50 lead. Aquinas was forced to foul and Wahoo converted free throws down the stretch to produce the winning margin. While Simons made ten of eleven free throws in the fourth quarter, the Monarchs only connected on five of ten. Aquinas coach Kevin Scheef noted, “ ... this game came down to free throw. We missed some opportunities.” Trailing by 13 at the half, Aquinas mounted a comeback after a switch to a triangle-and-two defense that focused on Simons and Eddie. The Warriors went four minutes without scoring and the Monarchs went on a 10-2 run at the end of the third period. Eddie led Wahoo with 21 points, Simons had 19, and Anderson 12.
