Wahoo advanced to the title game of the 1996 Class C1 State Tournament with a resounding 73-43 victory over O’Neill. O’Neill opened the game with a 10-6 lead, but then Wahoo put together the first of their double-digit runs, outscoring the Eagles 13-0. O’Neill countered with two scores, but then Wahoo went on a 33 - 4 rampage that put the game out of reach. Eric Eddie netted three three-pointers during the run and totalled 24 for the game. Mike Simons also scored 24 and Josh Anderson contributed 13. The Warriors eventually built the lead to 52 - 18 with three minutes to go in the third period. Wahoo’s defense held the Eagles to a 25% shooting effort that gave O’Neil little chance to stay in the game. O’Neill coach Nick Hostert commented, “The key part in the game was their great defense. They were very aggressive and took away the passing lanes for out team.” This will be Wahoo’s seventh trip to the finals in the last ten years of being to the state tournament.
