Bennington jumped out to an 8-0 lead behind two buckets from Denver Klaus and a bucket from Dexter Higgins. The Warriors closed up the gap to 12-8 after a Layne Moore trey. Bennington would lead 22-16 after one quarter.
In the second quarter, Bennington would extend the lead to 34-20 after a Chris Showman bucket. Wahoo then closed the lead to 9 at 39-30 at halftime, and had a chance to get as close as 7 before missing two free throws with one second left in the half.
The third quarter would see Bennington extend the lead to as much as 20 at 57-37 after a Higgins free throw. The Warriors would again chop into the lead, and going into the fourth quarter Wahoo had cut the lead back to 13, at 59-46. The Warriors, however, were in serious foul trouble as three players had fouled out by the end of the third quarter.
With just under 6 minutes remaining, a Taylor Murren trey rimmed ouT--that would have cut the lead to 7. In the final four minutes of the game, Bennington would pull the ball out and run out the clock for the 71-55 lead.
For the game, the Warriors were whistled for 33 fouls, and had four players foul out. Bennington attempted 41 free throws to just 17 for Wahoo.
"I thought our kids really battled and really competed. There were times that we were close to getting run out of there, but each time we answered to keep us in the game. Bennington has a tremendous team, with great size and great talent," said Headn Coach Kevin Scheef.
The Badgers are the defending Class C-1 State Runner-up, and featured a line up of three returning starters. Bennington's front line went 6'8”, 6'6”, 6'3”, while the Warriors started no one over 6'1”.
Wahoo was led by Senior Taylor Murren with 22 points. Tyler Brunsting and Matt Myers had 7 rebounds apiece. Denver Klaus led Bennington with 21 points, while 6'8” Senior Ben Sowers added 19. The Badgers out-rebounded the Warriors 40-27.
