vs. Bennington -- Conference Tournament Semi-Finals

1/29/09 At D.C. West
Wahoo 45
Bennington 68

The Wahoo Warriors were defeated by the #1 ranked Bennington Badgers 68-45 in the Semi-Finals of the Capitol Conference Tournament.

The Warriors hung tough for a quarter. The Warriors lead 9-5 after a Layne Moore jumper and led 12-8 after a Tyler Brunsting trey. Wahoo took their final lead of the game on a Taylor Murren basket to go up 14-12. The Badgers would take the lead at 18-16 on a Ben Sowers basket to end the quarter.

Bennington opened up the game in the second quarter. The Badgers turned up the defense and held Wahoo to 4 second quarter points. The halftime score saw Bennington up 32-20.

The third quarter was more of the same as Bennington increased the lead to 52-31 after three quarters before going on to the 68-45 victory.

The significant height advantage that Bennington enjoyed allowed the Badgers to dominate the Warriors on the glass, outrebounding Wahoo 40-22. The Badgers scored 11 times in the second half on second chance shots after offensive rebounds.

"I thought our kids played hard. We competed pretty well in all areas of the game except rebounding, and Bennington just dominated us on the glass. We could not get their big guys checked out, and we knew that second chance points would be too much for us to overcome." Said Coach Kevin Scheef.

Layne Moore led the Warriors with 15 points and 6 boards. Taylor Murren had 11 points. Tyler Brunsting added 7.

Bennington improves to 16-0 and will face Syracuse in the Finals of the tournament on Saturday. Wahoo drops to 7-7 and will face D.C. West in the consolation game Saturday at noon.
