Wahoo       76
Centennial  79  (2 OT)

The Wahoo Warriors lost a heartbreaking 79-76 double overtime game to Centennial on Saturday night.

The Warriors got off to a great start. They jumped out to an 8-2 lead after a Matt Myers’ trey, and increased the lead throughout the first quarter. A Kreig Lacey jumper gave the Warriors an 18-5 lead with 2 minutes to play in the first quarter. Wahoo led 23-11 after one quarter. Taylor Murren scored 14 of his game high 37 points in the first quarter.

Centennial chipped away at the lead in the second quarter after the Warriors failed to score on their first 7 possessions of the second quarter. Wahoo would lead 31-24 at halftime.
The Broncos scored the first 7 points of the third quarter to tie the game up at 31. The third quarter would end with Wahoo up 42-41.

Wahoo opened up a lead to start the fourth quarter. Back-to-back treys from Murren put the Warriors up 52-44 with 4:30 left in the game. Two consecutive turnovers and a missed trey from the Warriors allowed Centennial to cut the lead to 52-51 after a Tyler Wullenwaber trey with 3 minutes left. After a Nate Foley free throw with 30 seconds left, Centennial led 60-58. In the final seconds, Murren missed a trey, which was rebounded by Tyler Brunsting. Brunsting missed a 3 with 2 seconds left, but Matt Myers was there for the tip-in behind his head at the buzzer to send the game to overtime at 60.

The Warriors struck first in the first overtime. A Jared Moline tip in gave Wahoo a 62-60 lead. A Kendall Kucera basket tied the game at 62. A Tyler Brunsting basket put Wahoo up 64-62, before a Kendall Kucera basket tied it at 64. The Warriors had charging calls on their next two possessions in the final minute. The Broncos missed a 30-foot shot at the buzzer.

In the second overtime, the Broncos took the early lead, and the Warriors spent the rest of the time playing catch-up. A Jason Demaray trey cut the Bronco lead to 73-72 with 17 seconds left, but clutch free throw shooting from Centennial sealed the win for the Broncos.
Free throw shooting was a huge factor in the game. The Warriors’ inability to convert from the free throw line in the fourth quarter and overtime kept Wahoo from taking control of the game. Wahoo was 6-15 from the line in the fourth quarter, and 4-8 in the two overtime periods. The Warriors were 12-27 for the game from the line. Centennial on the other hand was 9-12 from the line in the overtime periods, and was 21-33 for the game.

"This was a very tough loss. We had numerous opportunities to really take control of the game in the second quarter, and just was not able to do so. We let them hand around and get some confidence. In the fourth quarter and overtime, our free throw shooting was awful. You are not going to win a tight game shooting that poorly from the line. I thought we played a terrific first quarter. Our ball movement and shot selection was excellent, but as the game went on, we started shooting the ball too quickly, and stopped moving without the ball. We became much easier to guard," said Head Coach Kevin Scheef.

Tyler Brunsting had 5 steals and 5 boards for the Warriors. Matt Myers had 12 points and 6 rebounds for Wahoo. Layne Moore added 6 boards, and Taylor Murren had 6 assists in addition to his 37 points.

The Warriors dropped to 1-3, while Centennial picked up their first win to improve to 1-3.
