vs. D. C. West -- Conference Tournament Consolation

1/31/09 At D.C. West
Wahoo 77
D.C. West 60

The Wahoo Warriors defeated the D.C. West Falcons 77-60 in the Consolation game of the Capitol Conference Tournament.

The game was tight throughout the first quarter, and it ended tied up at 15.

D.C. scored to open the second quarter to go up 17-15, but it would be their last lead of the game. A Jared Moline trey put Wahoo up 18-17. A minute later, Moline hit another trey to extend the Warrior lead to 25-19. A Greg Milliken put back and Matt Myers basket had the Warriors up 29-21. The Warriors still led 40-34, when Myers hit a trey with one second left in the half to go to the break up 43-34.

Back to back treys by Layne Moore and Taylor Murren put the Warriors up 49-34 a minute into the second half. D.C. West then cut the lead to 49-39, but Matt Myers followed with back to back treys to put Wahoo up 55-39, and the Warrior would not be threatened again. The quarter ended with Wahoo up 59-43, and would go on to the 77-60 victory.

Taylor Murren led the Warriors with 23 points, 6 assists and 5 steals. Matt Myers contributed 17 points. Jared Moline contributed a career high 15 points, 12 rebounds, and 5 assists. Layne Moore had a game high 8 assists, 7 rebounds and 7 points. The Warriors forced 23 D.C. West turnovers.

"It is not easy to play a 12:00 noon consolation game, but I thought our kids did a great job of getting themselves ready to play, and played with a lot of intensity. Jared Moline had a great game for us. To have three guys have 5 or more assists means that we are moving the ball well offensively and finding the open guy." Said Coach Kevin Scheef.

Wahoo improved to 8-7 and will face Arlington on Friday at home. D.C. West drops to 8-10.
