vs. Fort Calhoun

Wahoo        59
Fort Calhoun 69

The Wahoo Warriors were defeated by the Fort Calhoun Pioneers 69-59 on Tuesday night in a game postponed from December. Fort Calhoun took advantage of a horrendous start by the Warriors. Wahoo hit just 1 of their first 10 shots, and the Pioneers took an early 15-3 lead. Calhoun led 19-11 after one quarter and 34-22 at halftime.

Calhoun still led 50-41 after three quarters. The Warriors got a run going early in the fourth. Two baskets from Taylor Murren, a drive from Jared Moline, a trey from Matt Myers, a free throw from Tyler Brunsting and another Murren trey cut the Pioneer lead to two at 56-54 with 4 minutes left. The Warriors failed to score on their next four possessions, however, and Calhoun was able to extend the lead back to 9 at 63-54, and knocked a free throw down the stretch to preserve the win.
The Warriors were plagued by poor shooting from the field. They shot just 22-72, (30.6%) for the game. Fort Calhoun was 21-49 from the field (42.9%) for the game. Fort Calhoun's Stephen Busch, a 6'4” post, blocked 12 shots in the game to go with his 8 points and 11 rebounds.

Taylor Murren led Wahoo with 23 points while Layne Moore added 10 points. Jared Moline had 10 boards for the Warriors while Tyler Brunsting added 9 and Cole Barry 8 boards. "We just needed to get off to a better start. When you get in that kind of hole early, it is tough to climb out of. It is very tough to be successful when you shoot 30% from the floor. We need to work at taking better shots and at being able to knock down the open shots that we do get," said Head Coach Kevin Scheef.

Wahoo falls to 2-5 and returns to action this week at home against Syracuse and Crete.
