vs. North Bend

2/17/09 At North Bend
Wahoo 57
North Bend 59

The Wahoo Warriors were defeated by the North Bend Tigers 59-57 on Tuesday night.

The game was tight early. Two treys from Matt Myers had Wahoo on top 15-14 after one quarter.

Wahoo opened up a five point lead with three minutes to play in the half after a Taylor Murren trey and free throw, but North Bend would score the last six points of the half to go in to halftime up 26-25.

The Warriors opened up an eight point lead late in the third quarter after a trey from Matt Myers, a Greg Milliken jumper and a Jared Moline drive to go up 42-34. The third quarter ended with Wahoo up 42-36.

After a Ethan Bauer basket cut the Warrior lead to 42-38 to start the fourth quarter, Wahoo scored the next six points on a Moline basket, a Murren free throw, and another Myers trey to take a 10 point lead at 48-38 with six minutes to play. A 6-0 run from North Bend cut the Warrior lead to 48-44, but Matt Myers responded with his sixth trey of the game to push the lead back to 51-44 with 3 minutes to go. Following a North Bend missed jumper, the Tigers Drew Hines stole the ball at midcourt and went in for the layup. Hines converted the lay up, and was fouled. Hines missed the free throw, but the Warriors were unable to secure the rebound. Tyler Kingston grabbed the offensive rebound and scored on the putback to cut the Warrior lead to 51-48. Two free throws from Tony Hartman on the next possession cut the Warrior lead to 51-50 with 2:30 left. A Taylor Murren trey pushed the lead back to 54-50, but back to back treys from Eric Kavan, sandwiched around two Jared Moline free throws tied the game at 56. Following a Murren free throw that put Wahoo up 57-56, Tony Hartman scored to put North Bend up 58-57. Following a missed Warrior shot, the Tigers' Drew Hines hit 1 of 2 free throws to make it 59-57. The Warriors had the ball with 22 seconds left and a chance for a last shot but a three point attempt was blocked at the buzzer and for the second consecutive year, the Warriors lost a heartbreaker to the Tigers.

"You have to give North Bend a lot of credit. They made a lot of big plays and a lot of big shots down the stretch. They made one more play than we did. We did a lot of good things tonight, but it is heartbreaking to lose a 10 point fourth quarter lead like we did. We had our chances, and could not finish them off. Missed free throws, not checking out, leaving a shooter open, those things get you beat in the fourth quarter." Said Coach Kevin Scheef.

Matt Myers led the Warriors with 18 points on 6-8 shooting from behind the arc. Taylor Murren added 15 points and 8 assists. Jared Moline contributed 11 points and 7 boards. Layne Moore had 9 points on 3-3 shooting from the three point line, and 6 boards. Greg Milliken added 6 rebounds.

Wahoo was 11-23 from behind the arc, but was outrebounded 35-28.

Wahoo falls to 10-9 with the loss, while North Bend improves to 15-4. The Warriors will close out the regular season on Friday at Schuyler.
