The Wahoo Warriors defeated the Ashland-Greenwood Bluejays 59-44 in the Semi-Finals of the Capitol Conference Tournament at Raymond Central.

The Warriors got off to a good start. A put-back by Cole Barry was the first score of the game for Wahoo. Six different Warriors, led by Greg Milliken’s five first quarter points, scored for Wahoo in the opening period. A Josh Discher basket to end the quarter put Wahoo up 17-7 after one quarter.

The Warriors maintained the lead throughout the second quarter, though missed free throw opportunities prevented Wahoo from expanding the lead. Wahoo was just 5-13 from the line in the first half, and went to the halftime up 25-16.

In the third quarter, Ashland made a couple of different runs at Wahoo. Following a Milliken trey, which put Wahoo up 28-18, the Bluejays scored the next 6 points to cut the lead to 28-24. A Cole Barry basket, and two free throws from Jake Barry pushed the lead back to 8 at 32-24. Wahoo led 37-28 after two Discher free throws, but after a free throw from Nick Pease, Ashland cut the lead to 37-32 with one minute left in the quarter. A Discher 3-point play to end the quarter put Wahoo up 40-32 after three quarters.

The Warriors slowly pulled away in the fourth quarter. Two free throws from Jake Barry pushed the Warrior lead to 12 at 46-34. The Bluejays scored to make it 46-36, but a Max Cook basket and two Sean Lindgren free throws made it 50-36 with 3:30 left. Wahoo would make 9-10 from the line in the fourth quarter to preserve the win 59-44.

Milliken led the Warriors with 18 points. Discher contributed 12 points and Jake Barry added 11. Lindgren led the Warriors in rebounding with 7 boards, Jake Barry and Discher contributed 6 boards apiece. Max Cook had 4 assists and 5 steals. The Warriors forced 27 Bluejay turnovers.

Wahoo now faces Syracuse in the Conference Tournament Finals today at 6:15 p.m. at Raymond Central, and now stands at 9-5.
