vs. Norfolk Catholic

Wahoo 43
Norfolk Catholic 58

#1 rated Norfolk Catholic came to Wahoo on Friday night and went home with a 58-43 win. The Knights' tandem of 6'7 towers, Ethan Brozek and Ben Uhing were too much for the Warriors to overcome, as Norfolk Catholic held a 48-26 edge in rebounding.

Wahoo played a great first half. Greg Milliken scored the first four points of the game for Wahoo. A Josh Discher trey at the buzzer gave Wahoo a 13-11 lead after one quarter.

A Josh Discher basket to open the second quarter, put Wahoo up 15-11. Following a Knights basket, Cole Barry hit a trey to put Wahoo up 5 at 18-13. The Knights would then start to take control and went to halftime up 31-25.

A Cole Barry basket early in the third cut the Knights lead to 31-27. Wahoo had three lay up opportunities in it's next three possessions, but could not get any to fall, each which would have cut the lead to two points. The Warriors were 2-13 from the field in the third quarter. A Ben Uhing trey to end the quarter put Norfolk Catholic up 10 after three quarters at 41-31.

The Knights scored the first 4 points of the fourth quarter to go up 45-31, and the Warriors would not threaten again.

Greg Milliken and Cole Barry led the Warriors with 11 points a piece. Max Cook added 8 points, 7 boards, and 5 assists.

Coach Scheef: “Our effort was much better tonight than on Tuesday. We competed hard, and played pretty well for one half. That stretch early in the third quarter was big. If we just could have gotten a couple of those shots fall, and kept the game close, we might have had a chance in the fourth quarter. The other big area, other than the big rebounding advantage they had was that we were 8-17 at the free throw line. Against a great time, your margin of error is very small and we needed to shoot the ball much better from the line and the 3 point line.”

Wahoo drops to 9-4, while Norfolk Catholic improves to 13-0. The Warriors will host Fort Calhoun in the first round of the Capitol Conference Tournament on Monday night.
