Schuyler 33

The Wahoo Warriors closed out the regular season with a 69-33 victory over the Schuyler Warriors.

The game was close early as the score was tied at 7 with two minutes to play in the first quarter. The next 10 minutes of the first half was all Wahoo as they went on a 21-1 run, to take a 28-8 lead. Greg Milliken had 12 first half points and Max Cook added 7. A Schuyler shot from 10 feet behind half court banked in at the buzzer to cut Wahoo's lead to 28-11 at the break.

A trey from Schuyler's Brian Zrust to open the second half cut Wahoo's lead to 28-14, but Wahoo went on an 11-0 run to break the game wide open. A Sean Lindgren basket, followed by a Max Cook basket, a Greg Milliken basket, and two more buckets from Cook, put the Warriors up 39-14. Wahoo would lead 50-18 heading into the final quarter.

Coach Scheef: “We started just a little slow, but I thought that after the first 6 minutes we were very sharp, and played good basketball, which is just what we needed heading into districts. Max and Greg played very well again for us. Josh Discher continues to get the tough rebounds for us, and Sean Lindgren played very well tonight as well.”

Max Cook broke the single season steals record vs Schuyler. Max had 9 steals to push his season total to 121 steals. The record had been held by Mike Hancock, with 117 steals set in 1994.

Coach Scheef: “Max has quick hands and great instincts, and just gets his hands on so many passes. He does a great job out top on the 1-3-1.”

Cook had 21 points on 9-16 shooting from the field to go with his 9 steals. Greg Milliken had 18 points and 7 boards. Josh Discher had a team high 8 boards to go with 5 points. Christian Hohl and Sean Lindgren added 6 points a piece.

Wahoo held Schuyler to 26.7% shoot from the field, while shooting 50% from the field themselves.

Wahoo improves to 18-5 and will face D.C. West on Tuesday in the first round of Sub-Districts at Blair High School. Schuyler falls to 3-17.
