A Brook Stuart trey cut the lead to 48-43. Gierhan’s 6th trey of the night with 2:30 left, put Centennial up 51-43. A second Brook Stuart trey cut the lead to 51-46, with 2:00 left. A Jon Abbott drive and basket made it 51-48. Ben Scheef’s drive and basket cut the lead to 51-50 with 30 seconds left.  Centennial missed three front ends of one and ones in the final 2 minutes.  Wahoo got the ball back with 19 seconds left.  A missed shot by the Warriors was rebounded by Max Cook, who was fouled on the putback attempt with 4.3 seconds left.  Cook hit both free throws, and Centennial then just missed a three at the buzzer, to allow the Warriors to survive.

Coach Scheef: “I am just very proud of our kids for climbing out of a big hole.  When they hit the 3 to go up 8 with 2:30 left, it did not look good, but our kids did not panic, and made just enough plays to pull out the win. I think if your opponent hits 13 treys, and you are still able to get a win, then you should feel pretty good about that. We were very fortunate though in that as well as they shot from the 3 point line, they missed some crucial free throws in the last 3 minutes.  Max hit two huge free throws to give us the lead with 4 seconds left, but that is what Seniors do.  Casey Brown got us some huge rebounds down the stretch. Brook Stuart hit a couple of very big threes in the fourth to give us a chance to come back. Ben Scheef had a couple of big plays for us in the fourth, as did Jon Abbott.  It was a complete team win.”

Centennial was 13-30 from the three point line. Kendall Gierhan hit six treys for 22 points. Wahoo was led by Max Cook with 13 points, Jon Abbott contributed 12 points, and Ben Scheef added 11. Casey Brown and Max Cook both had 8 boards, Ben Scheef added 7 rebounds. Wahoo improves to 6-0, while Centennial drops to 3-2.  Wahoo travels to Fort Calhoun today to take on the Pioneers.
