The Wahoo Warriors defeated the Conestoga Cougars 82-60 in the first round of Sub-Districts at Waverly.

The Warriors offense was clicking early as they jumped out to a 32-15 lead after one quarter. Max Cook had 8 first quarter points, Ben Scheef had 7, and Casey Brown had 6.

The margin pretty much stayed the same in the second quarter. The halftime score was 47-30.

Wahoo broke the game open in the third quarter by outscoring the Cougars 22-10 to take a 69-40 lead into the fourth quarter. The Warriors scored the first 5 points of the fourth quarter for their largest lead of the game at 74-40, before ending up with the 82-60 win.

Coach Scheef: “Offensively, we played very well. We had excellent ball movement, especially early. I was a little concerned because I don’t think we defended the way that we need to, and we will need to defend much better on Thursday night. Our two Seniors, Max Cook and Casey Brown both had great nights for us.”

Max Cook led the Warriors with 22 points on 7-12 shooting from the field, and 6-6 shooting from the free throw line, to go with 4 steals and 4 assists. Casey Brown had a double-double with 15 points on 6-10 shooting from the field and 10 boards. Ben Scheef added 10 points and 4 assists. Jon Abbott had 8 points and 4 boards. Quinn McGill had 6 points, 5 boards, 6 steals and 5 assists. Tyler Kavan had 7 points and 5 boards. Brook Stuart added 6 points.

Wahoo shot 51.8% (29-56) from the field and 76% (19-25) from the free throw line. Wahoo outrebounded the Cougars 37-27, and forced 22 Conestoga turnovers.

Wahoo improves to 22-2, and will face Bishop Neumann on Thursday night at 7:00 at Waverly High School in the Sub-District Final.
