The Wahoo Warriors defeated the Raymond Central Mustangs at home in the Semi-Finals of the Capitol Conference Tournament on Friday night 71-49. The loss avenged a loss 10 days earlier to the Mustangs

Wahoo led 21-15 after the first period of play as 7 different Warriors scored in the opening period.

Wahoo extended the lead throughout the second quarter, as 6 different Warriors scored in this quarter. Sophomore Josh Langemeier hit two treys in the second quarter to help break the game open. Tyler Kavan had 10 first half points, with 4 of those coming on offensive rebounds, for the 5’10 Junior. Kavan’s last bucket of the half put Wahoo up 41-24 heading into halftime.

In the third quarter, the Warriors continued to play well. Brook Stuart hit two treys in the third quarter as Wahoo pushed the lead to 65-30 after three quarters. After Tyler Kavan’s basket, and two free throws from Ben Scheef, the Warriors had their largest lead of the game at 69-30. The Mustangs were able to outscore the Warriors 19-6 in the fourth quarter as reserves finished up for the Warriors.

Coach Scheef: “Our kids were very ready to go tonight, and just gave a fantastic effort. It was a total team win. Everybody who played for us, played well tonight. Our offensive execution was as sharp as it has been all year. Tyler Kavan’s effort was tremendous. Brook Stuart and Josh Langemeier shot it very well for us. Ben Scheef did a great job on the glass, Casey Brown, Jon Abbott, and Max Cook played terrific for us as well.”

The Warriors had 7 guys score between 7 and 14 points. Junior Tyler Kavan scored a career high 14 points, 6 boards, and 3 steals. Brook Stuart, Max Cook and Josh Langemeier each contributed 12 points on two treys apiece. Cook also had a game high 6 assists. Jon Abbott had 8 points. Ben Scheef had 8 points and 10 boards. Casey Brown added 7 points and 5 boards.

The Warriors had just 3 turnovers through the first 3 quarters and ended up with just 9 for the game. Wahoo was also 9-10 from the line for the game.

Wahoo improves to 14-2 and will face Bennington in the Conference Tournament Finals at Wahoo on Saturday night.
