The Wahoo Warriors defeated the David City Scouts 57-47 at home on Tuesday night.
The first half was a low scoring affair that stayed tight throughout. Neither team led by by more than 4 points in the first half. The score was tied at 8 after the first quarter and tied at 19 at halftime.
In the third quarter, a tremendous hustle play by Senior Tyler Kavan, when he dove to save a ball from going out of bounds, got the Warriors started. Kavan saved it to Quinn McGill who knocked down a 15 foot jumper to extend the Warrior lead to 24-19. A Jonathan Abbott trey two minutes later, pushed the Warrior lead to 8 at 32-24. The third quarter ended with the Warriors up 10 at 38-28.
A Brook Stuart trey early in the fourth made it 41-30. The teams traded baskets over the next couple of minutes. A Jonathon Abbott steal and lay up gave the Warriors their largest lead at 12 at 51-39. Back to back treys by the Scouts keyed an 8-0 run that cut the Warrior lead to 51-47 with two minutes left. Two free throw by Ben Scheef with 1:45 left pushed the lead back to 6 at 53-47. Two free throws apiece from Stuart and Scheef in the final minute provided the final margin at 57-47.
Jonathan Abbott led the Warriors in scoring with 20 points. Ben Scheef added 15 points and 6 boards. Quinn McGill had 8 points, 11 boards, 5 steals and 3 assists. Tyler Kavan added 8 boards and 5 assists.
Wahoo outrebounded the Scouts 32-26 and committed just 10 turnovers to 18 for David City.
The Warriors improve to 3-0 and will travel to Logan View to take on the Raiders on Saturday afternoon. David City falls to 2-1.
