Fort Calhoun 54 Finals of Capitol Conference Tournament
The Wahoo Warriors defeated the Fort Calhoun Pioneers 81-54 in the Finals of the Capitol Conference Tournament, behind the red hot shooting of Senior Brook Stuart. Stuart hit on 7-9 three point shots to lead Wahoo.
A Tyler Kavan trey opened the scoring for the Warriors. Wahoo led 8-7 midway through the first period. Wahoo would then ourscore the Pioneers 12-0 the rest of the quarter. Brook Stuart’s first trey was followed by a Jonathan Abbott basket. A Tyler Kavan steal and assist to Jonathan Abbott for a lay up, was followed by Stuart’s second trey. A Ben Scheef offensive rebound and putback, was followed by an Abbott trey to end the quarter with Wahoo up 20-7.
In the second quarter, the Pioneers made a run to cut the Warrior lead to 22-14. A Ben Scheef basket, followed by two Jake Scheef free throws, and another Brook Stuart trey put Wahoo up 29-14. A minute later, another Stuart trey pushed the lead to 34-17. Brook Stuart’s fifth trey of the half, made it 37-19. A Ben Scheef basket, followed by a steal from Scheef, and assist to Jake Scheef for a lay up put Wahoo up at the half 41-21.
The Warriors opened the third quarter with a 6-0 run. Two Jonathan Abbott buckets and a Quinn McGill steal, and assist to Tyler Kavan pushed the lead to 47-21. Tyler Kavan would score 9 third quarter points to keep the Pioneers from mounting a comeback. Wahoo led 63-39 after three quarters, and coasted to the 81-54 win.
Wahoo had just one first half turnover and committed just 8 for the game. The Warriors were 11-16 from behind the arc.
Brook Stuart led the Warriors with 21 points on 7-9 from three point range. Jonathan Abbott had 18 points on 8-12 from the floor. Ben Scheef had 14 points on 6-8 shooting from the field to go with 7 boards and 6 assists. Tyler Kavan had 14 points on 6-10 shooting from the field and added 4 boards, 4 steals and 4 assists. Quinn McGill had 5 boards and 3 assists.
The Warriors won their third consecutive Capitol Conference tournament title, and moved to 17-0 with the win. Fort Calhoun dropped to 14-4. The Warriors will host Arlington on Friday night and GICC on Saturday night.
