The Wahoo Warriors defeated the Raymond Central Mustangs in Capitol Conference action on Tuesday night 68 51.
Wahoo jumped out to an 12-0 lead to start the game. A Jonathan Abbott drive, a trey from Ben Scheef, two free throws from Quinn McGill, and another trey from Scheef, gave Wahoo the early lead. An Abbott jumper to end the quarter put Wahoo up 22-13 after one quarter.
The Mustangs scored the first 6 points of the second quarter to cut the lead to 22-19. A Ben Scheef putback off of an offensive rebound, followed by two free throws from him, and a Brook Stuart trey pushed the lead back to 10 at 29-19. Central then went on a 10-2 run to cut the Warrior lead to 31-29. A Jonathan Abbott trey, a Quinn McGill free throw, and an Abbott jumper to close the half, gave the Warriors a 37-29 lead heading into halftime.
In the third quarter, Tyler Kavan’s steal and lay up, followed by another Brook Stuart trey gave the Warriors a 13 point lead at 42-29. A Quinn McGill steal and assist to Tyler Kavan for a 3 point play pushed the Warrior lead to 15 at 49-34. Another Brook Stuart trey pushed the lead to 16 at 52-36. The Mustangs then responded with a run to cut the Warrior lead to 52-45. Ben Scheef responded with a trey to close the quarter at 55-45.
Another Ben Scheef trey to open the quarter pushed the lead back to 13 at 58-45. A Jonathan Abbott basket made it 60-45. Wahoo then slowed the pace and knocked down free throws in the final three minutes to get the 68-51 win.
Ben Scheef led Wahoo with 26 points on 8-11 shooting from the floor, and 6-7 shooting from the free throw line, to go with 6 rebounds. Jonathan Abbott had 17 points. Brook Stuart added 13 points and 5 boards. Tyler Kavan had 6 points and 5 assists. Quinn McGill had 5 points, 8 boards, and 5 steals.
Wahoo went 8-13 from the three point line, and was 13-17 (76.5%) from the free throw line, while committing just 7 turnovers for the game.
Wahoo improves to 13-0, while Central drops to 7-6. The Warriors host Norfolk Catholic on Friday night.
