The Wahoo Warriors defeated the Schuyler Warriors 72-38 in the final regular season on Friday night.

Wahoo jumped out to a 21-5 lead after one quarter of play. Jonathan Abbott had 7 first quarter points, as seven Warriors scored in the opening period.

Schuyler scored the first five points of the second quarter to cut the Wahoo lead to 21-10. Two Jake Wilson free throws, Tyler Kavan steal and lay up and a Brook Stuart trey, pushed the lead back to 28-10. Schuyler came back and scored the next eight points to make it 28-18. Wahoo would go to halftime with a 36-26 lead.

Wahoo scored the first 11 points of the third quarter to break the game open. A Ben Scheef bucket, another Brook Stuart trey, a Jonathan Abbott basket, followed by an Abbott steal and feed to Quinn McGill for a lay up, and a Jake Scheef basket put Wahoo up 47-26. Wahoo would lead 57-31 after three quarters.

Five Warriors led a balanced scoring attack that scored between 9 and 13 points. Tyler Kavan led Wahoo with 13 points on 6-9 shooting from the field, to go with 5 boards, 3 steals, and 3 assists. Ben Scheef had 12 points and 6 boards. Jake Wilson had 10 points and 7 rebounds. Brook Stuart had 9 points on three treys. Jonathan Abbott had 9 points, 5 steals and 5 assists.

Wahoo out rebounded Schuyler 33-17, and shot 56.9% from the field compared to 34.9% shooting for Schuyler.

Wahoo closed out the regular season at 23-0 and will face the winner of Columbus Scotus and David City on Tuesday night in Sub-District action at Columbus High School.

“We got started real well in the first quarter, but did not defend very well in the second quarter, and we allowed Schuyler to get back in the game. The second half, though, we came out much sharper and were able to put them away fairly quickly in the third quarter.” -- Coach Kevin Scheef.
