2/27/14 At Omaha Northwest
Finals of Sub-Districts
Wahoo 53
Neumann 67

The Wahoo Warriors were defeated by the Bishop Neumann Cavaliers 67-53 on Thursday night in the Sub-District Final at Omaha Northwest.

The Warriors jumped out to an 8-3 lead early on a Jake Ruzicka trey, a Ben Scheef drive, and a Gavin Iversen trey. The Warriors would get stuck on 8 though, as Neumann went on a 14-0 run to take a 17-8 lead. The Warriors would trail 19-14 after one quarter.

A Ben Scheef lay up at the buzzer cut the Neumann lead to 34-26 at halftime.

The Warriors made a run midway through the third quarter. A trey from Josh Langemeier and a Jake Scheef basket but the Neumann lead to 36-33. Another long dry spell would doom the Warriors, as they would not score the rest of the quarter, and Neumann would extend the lead to 49-33 after three quarters, and go on to the 67-53 win.

Jake Scheef led Wahoo with 23 points and 4 steals. Ben Scheef had 15 points and 7 boards. Jake Ruzicka added 7 points and 6 boards.

The Warriors are now 20-5 and need help from other teams to secure a wild card spot.

COACH'S CORNER

“Give Neumann a lot of credit. They are very athletic, they play hard, and they got their hands on a lot of balls and passes and forced a bunch of turnovers. You are not going to win games against good teams turning the ball over 24 times, which is what we did. We also struggled to keep them off the offensive glass.” -- Coach Kevin Scheef.
