Class C1 State Championship Game
Wahoo 47
Neumann 68

Wahoo got back to the Class C1 championship game for the third consecutive year, but that’s about as close as they got to claiming back to back titles. Wahoo Neumann took the title from the Warriors with a 68 - 47 win in a game that the Caveliers dominated from the outset. Neumann sprinted to a 16 - 4 lead and the Warriors were battling from behind the rest of the game. Trailing 8 - 19 at the end of teh first quarter, Wahoo did rally some in the second period as Jake Scheef scored eight points and the Neumann lead was cut to eight at the half.

The Warriros stayed even in the third period and narrowed the lead to six early in the fourth period, but then Neumann went on a stretch run that put the game away. Jake Scheef was the only consistent offensive for the Warriors, scoring 22 points on the game. The Neumann victory was largely the product of its dominance on the boards (36 - 23) and forcing 24 Wahoo turnovers. The victory gave Neumann its fourth state title, while Wahoo finished runner-up for the third time.

COACH'S CORNER

“We really got off to a slow start. We turned the ball over too many times and dug ourselves a big hole,” -- Coach Kevin Scheef (from the Wahoo Newspaper)

“Every time we would get close they answered with a big shot or a put back. We just could never get over the hump,” -- Jake Scheef (from the Wahoo Newspaper)
Josh Langemeier looks for an opening against Wahoo Neumann.
