The Wahoo Warriors defeated the Seward Bluejays 70-59 on Saturday night behind Junior Jake Scheef’s 30 points.
Wahoo jumped out to a 14-12 lead after one quarter, as Jake Scheef had 9 first quarter points, and Gavin Iversen had 5.
The Warriors were able to extend the lead throughout the second quarter behind 6 points from Freshmen Jake Ruzicka, to take a 37-26 lead at halftime.
Three Ben Scheef free throws and a Jake Ruzicka basket gave the Warrriors their largest lead of the game at 42-26 early in the third quarter. Seward would answer with an 8-0 run to cut the lead to 42-34. Wahoo lead 44-36 after three.
The Warriors still led by 8 at 46-38 early in the fourth. Two consecutive three point plays and two free throws from Jake Scheef put Wahoo 54-38 midway through the fourth quarter. Wahoo was 14-19 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter, including 11-12 from the line from Jake Scheef, to take home the win, 70-59.
Jake Scheef led Wahoo with 30 points, 5 boards, and 5 steals. Gavin Iversen added 11 points, 6 boards, and 3 assists. Ben Scheef had 10 points and 6 boards. Jake Ruzicka had 8 points and 10 boards, and Josh Langemeier had 8 points and 6 boards.
The Warriors outrebounded the Bluejays 36-25, and were 33-42 from the free throw line.
Wahoo improves to 2-0 and will travel to David City on Tuesday night.
