The Wahoo Warriors were defeated by the Syracuse Rockets 65-58 in overtime on Friday night in Syracuse. The Rockets hit a three point shot at the buzzer in regulation to send it to overtime.
The Rockets led 10-9 after one quarter of play. The game remained close in the second quarter, as the Warriors took a 25-22 lead into the halftime break. Brendan Lacey had 12 first half points and Dylan Egr added 10.
Wahoo led throughout the third quarter. They led by as much as 5 at 35-30. The third quarter ended with Wahoo up 35-32.
The fourth quarter remained a defensive struggle. A Brendan Lacey lay up with 53 seconds left in regulation put Wahoo up 47-42. The Rockets came back with a traditional three point play to make it 47-45. Two Dylan Egr free throws made it 49-45 with 30 seconds left. The Rockets hit a trey with 20 seconds left to cut the lead to 49-48. Two more Dylan Egr free throws with 18 seconds left put the Warrirors up 51-48. The Rockets then hit a tough three at the buzzer to send the game to overtime at 51.
The Rockets scored first in overtime and never trailed. The Warriors were still within one at 56-55 with 38 seconds left. The Rockets hit two free throws to make it 58-55. The Warriors then missed a shot on their next possession. Syracuse added two more free throws to make it 60-55 and added five more free throws down the stretch to seal the win. Wahoo had four starters foul out in regulation and overtime.
Dylan Egr led the Warriors with 18 points on 12-12 shooting from the line, to go with 6 steals. Brendan Lacey added 16 points and 10 boards. Will Shanahan also added a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Wahoo shot it well from the free throw line going 24-31, (77.4%), but struggled from the floor, going 15-48. (31.3%).
Wahoo falls to 3-6, and will travel to Crete on Saturday afternoon. Syracuse improves to 8-3.
