Bennington 69
The Wahoo Warriors were defeated by the Bennington Badgers 69-54 in the season opener on Thursday night in Bennington.
Bennington led 16-13 after one quarter, and extended the lead to 32-24 at halftime. The Warriors were down 37-32 midway through the third quarter, when the Badgers went on a 12-1 run to break the game open at 49-33. The Warriors were able to get no closer than 11 the rest of the way.
Bennington outrebounded the Warriors 34-24, and shot 27 free throws to 4 for Wahoo.
Winston Cook led the Warriors with 19 points and 11 boards. Blake Lacey added 17 points on 5-7 shooting from three point range, and 5 assists.
“Bennington is an excellent team, and we were going to have to play really well to have a chance at them, and that did not happen. We got outrebounded badly, and our ability to attack them and get to the line did not happen. This was a good game for us to play, to show us what we need to do to get better.” Said Coach Kevin Scheef.
Wahoo drops to 0-1 and will host a very talented Aurora team on Friday night. |
