The Wahoo Warriors defeated the Lincoln Lutheran Warriors 67-45 on Tuesday night in Wahoo.
Wahoo jumped out to a 6-0 lead on back to back treys from Winston Cook and Blake Lacey. After a Gerardo Madrid trey and basket from Blake Lacey, Wahoo led 16-6. Lincoln Lutheran would score the last eight points of the quarter to make the score 16-14 after one.
The game was close throughout the second quarter, and Wahoo led at the break 26-25.
Wahoo opened the game up in the third quarter. A Thomas Waido basket, followed by a Karson Hesser bucket, and a Trey Scheef three point play, pushed the lead to 33-25. Following a Lincoln Lutheran free throw, Trey Scheef scored, followed by two more Thomas Waido buckets, a Blake Lacey lay up and a Blake Lacey trey to make it 46-28. That capped a 20-3 run to start the second half. The quarter ended with Wahoo up 51-32, and in control of the game.
“I was really pleased with the third quarter. We started being more aggressive against their 1-3-1 defense, and we were able to get our hands on a lot of passes and get our offense started in transition. Thomas Waido had a huge game for us. This was a good win against a good team.” Said Coach Kevin Scheef.
Thomas Waido led Wahoo with 20 points on 9-11 shooting from the field to go with 8 boards, 8 steals, 5 assists, and zero turnovers. Blake Lacey added 18 points, 5 steals, and 6 assists. Winston Cook had 15 points and 8 boards.
Wahoo forced 21 Lincoln Lutheran turnovers, while committing just 11.
Wahoo enters the holiday break with a 5-2 record and will next face Lexington in the first round of the Holiday Tournament at Wahoo on December 28th. Lincoln Lutheran falls to 5-2.
