The Wahoo Warriors were defeated by the Lexington Minutemen 78-64 in the first round of the Holiday Tournament at Bishop Neumann on Friday night.
Lexington jumped on Wahoo from the start, jumping to leads of 5-0 and 14-4. They led 17-6 at the end of one quarter.
Lexington expanded the lead to 37-19 late in the second quarter. The Warriors would go on a 10-2 run, aided by two Braden Harris treys, and two Thomas Waido buckets cut the Lexington lead to 39-29 at halftime.
The Minutemen scored the first eight points of the third quarter to make it 47-29 and cruised the rest of the way to the 78-64 win.
“It was a very disappointing night. We got out worked in all phases of the game. Give Lexington a lot of credit. They played much harder than we did and were much tougher.” Said Coach Kevin Scheef.
Braden Harris led Wahoo with 19 points on 5-8 shooting from three point range, and 6 boards. Trey Scheef had 14 points on 8-8 from the free throw line, and Thomas Waido added 12 points and 5 boards.
Lexington shot 57.1% from the field compared to 35% from the Warriors and out rebounded Wahoo 28-23.
Wahoo falls to 5-1 and will face Seward in the Consolation game of the Holiday Tournament today. Lexington improves to 7-1.
