The Wahoo Warriors defeated the Ashland-Greenwood Bluejays 69-53 on Tuesday night, in the last game before the Christmas break.
The Warriors got off to a great start, and broke out to a 17-2 lead. The Warriors led 21-6 after one quarter. Garrett Grandgenett had 8 first quarter points, and Trevor Kasischke added 7.
Wahoo still led 28-11 midway through the second quarter, when the Bluejays made a run. Ashland scored the next 10 points to cut the lead to 28-21. An Owen Hancock three point play stopped the run and pushed the lead back to 31-21. The Warriors led 35-24 at the break.
In the third quarter, the Warriors pushed the lead to 40-26 after an Owen Hancock trey. Ashland would keep chipping away and cut the lead to 7 at 49-42 to end the third quarter.
The lead would get cut to 6 at 51-45 early in the fourth. A Trevor Kasischke free throw and Garrett Grandgenett bucket made it 54-45. An Owen Hancock trey made it 57-45. The Bluejays countered with a trey to make it 57-48. An 8-0 run from the Warriors would put the game away at 65-48, and the Warriors went on to a 69-53 win.
Trevor Kasischke led Wahoo with 22 points on 7-11 shooting from the field. Owen Hancock had 15 points and 8 boards. Garrett Grandgenett added 14 points and 8 boards. Triston Keeney had 6 assists.
Wahoo outrebounded the Bluejays 34-25.
Wahoo improves to 5-1, while Ashland-Greenwood drops to 3-2. The Warriors will return to action on December 28th, as it will host Elkhorn North in the first round of the Holiday Tournament at Wahoo.
