The Wahoo Warriors were defeated by the Waverly Vikings 60-58 on Thursday night in Wahoo.
The Warriors jumped out to a 6-0, behind treys from Trevor Kasischke and Marcus Glock. Waverly would come back and take a 16-15 lead after the first quarter.
Waverly led 19-17, when the Warriors went on a 9-0 run. Two Kamron Kasischke free throws, and seven straight points from Trevor Kasischke put Wahoo up 26-19. Waverly cut the lead back to 26-24, but two Marcus Glock free throws and another Trevor Kasischke bucket put the Warriors up 30-24 at halftime.
In the third quarter, the Warriors were able to gradually stretch out their lead. Back to back treys from Owen Hancock and Trevor Kasischke put the Warriors up 15 at 46-31 with 2:30 left in the third. Waverly was able to cut the lead to 48-40 after three.
A Waverly trey to start the fourth cut the lead to 48-43. A Trevor Kasischke bucket made it 50-43. After a Viking free throw, an Owen Hancock trey made it 53-44. Waverly would then go on a 9-0 run capped by a trey to tie it up at 53 with 2:40 left. A Trevor Kasischke bucket put the Warriors back up 55-53. A Garrett Grandgenett free throw made it 56-53 with 1:45 left. Two free throws a Waverly bucket put the Vikings up 57-56 with 55 seconds left. An Owen Hancock bucket gave the Warriors the lead back at 58-57 with 45 seconds left, but the Vikings would answer with a jumper with 17 seconds left to take a 59-58 lead. A Warriors shot in the lane was blocked with 4 seconds left. Waverly would add a free throw with 1.7 seconds left and Wahoo was not able to get a shot off at the buzzer.
Trevor Kasischke led the Warriors with 26 points on 11-14 shooting from the field, including 4-5 from 3 point range. Owen Hancock added 10 points on 2-5 from the beyond the three point line to go with 10 boards. Garrett Grandgenett added 8 points and 7 boards, and Marcus Glock added 8 points.
Wahoo drops to 11-3, while Waverly improves to 9-1. The Warriors will receive a first round bye in the Conference Tournament next week, and play the winner of Plattsmouth and Nebraska City in the Semi-Finals.
