The Wahoo Warriors defeated the Clarkson-Leigh Patriots 77-50 on Saturday afternoon in the District Final in Wahoo.

Clarkson-Leigh led 12-11 after one period. The Patriots still led 23-20 with four minutes to play in the half, when the Warriors got things going. Two free throws by Benji Nelson and an Owen Hancock lay up gave Wahoo the lead at 24-23 that they would not relinguish. In the final four minutes of the second quarter, the Warriors outscored the Patriots 20-4. A Myles Simon lay up at the buzzer, put Wahoo up 40-27 at the half.

The lead was still 13 at 53-40 with 1:00 minute left in the third. A Myles Simon lay up to close the third quarter put Wahoo up 55-40 entering the fourth, and that was the beginning of a 12-0 run that would put the game away. Another Myles Simon bucket, followed by baskets from Owen Hancock, Marcus Glock, and an Anthony Simon trey, helped put Wahoo up 65-40, and the Warriors would go on to the 77-50 win.

Anthony Simon led the Warriors with 19 points on 8-13 shooting from the field, including 2-2 from behing the arc, and a dunk, to go with 6 steals. Myles Simon added 18 points on 7-8 shooting from the field and 3 steals. Owen Hancock added 10 points, 6 boards, and 4 assists. Benji Nelson had 9 points on 7-7 shooting from the line. Garrett Grangenett had 6 boards.

Wahoo outrebounded Clarkson-Leigh 28-21 and forced 25 Patriot turnovers.

Wahoo improves to 23-2, and will play at the State Tournament a week from Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. Clarkson-Leigh ends it’s season at 19-6.
