In 1981, the Capitol Conference split into two conferences with most of the bigger schools forming the Eastern Midlands Conference while the smaller schools stayed in the Capitol Conference. Wahoo, Ashland, Arlington, Raymond Central and Syracuse had long been members of the Capitol Conference. Over the years David City, Valley (Douglas County West), Fort Calhoun, Bennington, and Conestoga were all at one time members of the Conference. The Conference has held a tournament every year, with the host site rotating among the conference schools. For most years, the first rounds have been held at the highest seeded school. During the "Glory Days" years, Wahoo won the tournament championship nine times; nine consecutive times between 1989 and 1997. Ironically, the Warriors lost the title the first year (1988) of the "Glory Days" and yet were State Champions; and they also lost in the last year (1998) when they were also State Champions. Wahoo has won the most championships, followed by Syracuse.
