| WARRIOR OFFENSE SPUTTERS AGAIN, LOSE TO ASHLAND |

CONFERENCE / Away / REGULAR SEASON / Season Game #: 6 / Current Record: 3 - 3 WAHOO: 9 ... 13 ... 14 ... 7 .... 43 Wahoo returned from Ashland with a second straight loss, falling 51-43 to the Blue Jays. The loss dropped Wahoo to 3-3 on the season. Ashland, ranked #1 in Class C1 (OWH), improved its record to 4-0. The Blue Jays locked up the win when Logan Fangmeyer sank a corner three as the shot clock ran out with :54 remaining to put Ashland ahead 47-41. It was Fangmeyer’s only score of the game. The Blue Jays went 4 of 4 from the free throw line to finish out the game. he Warriors struggled offensively, hitting just 2 of 15 three-point attempts and 3 of 9 free throws. They were also outrebounded 30-23 and committed 15 fouls compared to Ashland's 6. Coach T.J. O’Connor said the team needs to play with more comfort and confidence and will work to improve offensive positioning. The Warriors were in position to win the game at the end of the third quarter as Cody Hesser grabbed a rebound and went coast-to-coast to score a layup and put Wahoo ahead 36-33. But Ashland scored the first 8 points of the fourth period, capped by a Cal Kissinger corner 3 to make the score 41-36. Landon Glock ended the run with a three-pointer, but Wahoo couldn’t get any closer. Wahoo kept the game close throughout. Trailing 7-2 in the first quarter Wahoo went on a 6-point run highlighted by a Hesser steal and dunk and the game was tied at the end of the first period. Wahoo built a six-point lead mid-way through the second period when Joey Kelly scored a three and a Kip Brigham made a steal and assist to Hesser for a layup. But Ashland’s Kissinger scored on a three-pointer and converted a conventional three-point play to take a 22-20 lead. Hesser netted a jumper from the free throw line at the buzzer to tie the score at the half, 22-22. Coach O’Connor commented, “We have to keep working in practice to get our offense ironed out and work at sustaining things we can finish and close out fourth quarters.” Hesser continues to lead the Warriors. Ths senior was the only Warrior to reach double figures with 16, and he also led the team in rebounding with 8. Kissinger led all scorers with 18 and was joined in double figures by Derek Tonjes (13) and Cooper Westerhold (12). Noteworthy: Wahoo Ashland |
