HESSER HITS CAREER HIGH – WAHOO DOWNS AURORA

12/6/2025 vs. Aurora ... NONCONFERENCE / Away / REGULAR SEASON /

Season Game #: 2 / Current Record: 2 - 0

WAHOO: 12 ... 14 ... 23 ... 17 .... 66
Aurora: 9 ... 6 ... 12 ... 16 .... 43

Senior Cody Hesser scored a career high 24 points as Wahoo won its second game of the season, defeating Aurora 66 – 43. Hesser also led the team in rebounding with 9. Hesser’s scoring showed some versatility as he effectively drove to the basket, pulled up for jumpers and scored a three, overall connecting on 11 of 15 field goals (73%).

After a poor showing from the three point line in the season’s first game against Bennington (20%) the Warriors found their range going 6 of 15 (40%). Hesser and Landon Glock each connected on two three-pointers. The three’s helped to produce a more productive offense as Wahoo scored 15 more points than in their opening game. The Warriors kept up their defensive game as they have kept both opening opponents under 45 points. Coach O’Connor commented: “I felt like we continued to defend with toughness and grit.” For the second game Wahoo significantly out-rebound their opponent, grabbing 35 rebounds to Aurora's 25.

The key to the win was an 18 – 5 run the first six minutes of the third quarter. Down 26 – 17 at the half, Aurora’s Jaxon Slagle got an inside basket to start the second half, and followed a Jase Kaminski 2-pointer with a three to cut the lead to 28-20. But the Huskies didn’t score again until Slagle netted another three with 1:50 to go in the quarter. By then Wahoo had built a 47-23 lead. Joel Simon came off the bench to match Slagle’s three. Aurora’s Cannon Allen scored on a last second drive to the basket to make the score 49-27 at the end of the third. Coach O’Connor: “The 3rd quarter in particular we started to get better rhythm and timing offensively.”

Hesser’s heroics continued into the final stanza. With 4:40 remaining, Hesser scored his second trey, then stole a pass and converted the layup to put the game away with a 58-22 lead. Hesser’s heroics continued into the final stanza.  With 4:40 remaining, Hesser scored his second trey, then stole a pass and converted the layup to put the game away with a 58-22 lead.  With two minutes to go in the half, Kip Brigham connected on a jump shot to make the score 64 – 41 and Coach O’Connor emptied the bench.  Quincy Quigstad scored on the block from a pass by Simon to produce the final 66 points.

The Huskies had kept the game close in the first half, largely due to the efforts of Slagle who scored 8 first half points and went on to lead Aurora with 18. Aurora had pulled to within 6. Points with 2:30 to go in the half, but Wahoo finished with a Kaminski corner three and a Hesser basket in transition to produce Wahoo’s 26-15 lead.

Ryan Staehr also scored in double figures for the Huskies with 14. Landon Glock scored 13 for Wahoo.

It was an impressive win for the Warriors as Aurora entered the game 1-0 after defeating preseason Class C1 ranked Adams Central, 59-49.
