Wahoo vs Nebraska City CT

Wahoo advanced to the semi-finals of the Trailblazer Conference Tournament with a decisive 72 – 19 win over Nebraska City. The victory was predictable as the Warriors had prevailed over the Pioneers earlier in the season 84 – 25. It could have been worse, but Wahoo dominated early and a Griffin Hancock basket at the 4:30 mark in the third quarter put Wahoo up by 40 and initiated a running clock for the rest of the contest.

It appeared that Nebraska City might be a little more competitive this time out as the Pioneers got three-pointers from Jon Pineda and Caleb Walker in the first quarter and only trailed 19 – 12. Sophomore Joey Kelly, again starting in place of injured Eli Shada, scored 6 in the opening stanza for the Warriors.

The Wahoo defense clamped down in the second period only allowing the Pioneers 2 points. Wahoo scored the first 19 points of the quarter. Landon Glock netted his fourth three-pointer of the half to end the second period with a 43 – 14 lead.

Wahoo didn’t let up in the third period, scoring the first 13 points. Quincy Gigstad came off the bench to net 4 points and a Hancock three at the buzzer gave Wahoo a 63 – 17 lead. With the clock running, there weren’t as many opportunities to score in the final period but the Wahoo reserves were able to outscore Nebraska City 9 – 2 and finish out the win. Hancock scored his second three and Brody Milliken added another.

Wahoo had four players in double figures while Nebraska City had none. Glock and Cody Hesser each scored 16 for the Warriors. Kip Brigham and Kelly scored 10 each. Caleb Walker was the leading scorer for Nebraska City with 7.

Nebraska City fell to 5-11 on the season. Wahoo extended its win streak to ten and a 13 – 3 record.
